How to find a good olive oil…
Extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade and purest form of olive oil.
A good, fresh olive oil will have a fruity and peppery sensation on your palate. This ensures you are getting fresh olive oil and the nutrients haven’t degraded.
Lower quality olive oils undergo more processing and have higher acidity.
“Cold-pressed” olive oil extracts the oil out of olives without using heat, which preserves the natural flavors and nutritional properties.
Extra virgin olive oil is known for heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and is full of antioxidants and polyphenols.
Olive oil is best kept in cool, dark places and tightly sealed to prevent oxidation.
Olive oil is best in glass bottles.
The health benefits of olive oil are most prominent when eaten raw and unheated. However, you can cook with it at a low-medium heat (just don’t deep fry).
